What is AYSO Extra? AYSO Extra is a soccer program that is geared to those players who want a higher level of competition and training but do not want to play Club soccer. Extra teams will be formed by each region in Area 10E (along with teams from other Regions). The Extra teams will play against each other during the Fall soccer season (10 – 14 games) and will have playoffs at the end of the season in addition to possible inter-sectional tournaments. What teams will be formed? Region 4 will be forming at least one Extra team for each of Boys and Girls in the U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 divisions. This will result in a minimum of ten teams being formed for the Fall season. Who will coach the team? The teams will be coached by a volunteer coach (just like we do for regular AYSO). Applications to coach an Extra team are due by February 5, 2010 with interviews scheduled for February 16th and 17th. Coaches will be announced shortly after interviews are complete. Will there be professional trainers? Each team will be able to utilize a professional trainer of their choosing and to use the budget they are allotted for the use of trainers. Over 60% of the registration fee will comprise the budget for the trainers. What is the registration fee? The registration fee will be $475 for the Fall season. The reason that this is higher than regular AYSO is to cover the cost of trainers along with home and away uniforms. How long will the season last? The Fall season will begin practicing in August (like we do for the regular AYSO season) with regular season and league cup playoffs running through November/December. In addition, there will be opportunities for inter-sectional tournaments which we expect to take place in January and February. Will there be tournaments after the Fall Season? Yes. Extra teams will be allowed to participate in pre-season tournaments and AYSO invitational tournaments which will take place during November through June. The cost to enter into each of these tournaments will run $35 to $45 per player per tournament. Will Spring training be available? Yes. In addition to a weekly practice starting in mid-April through June, we are encouraging all players interested in participating in Extra to enroll in our Spring Skill Program. To enroll in the Spring Skills Program, go to the home page at www.aysoregion4.com How do players get chosen for the Extra team? Players who are interested in playing on an Extra team should attend the tryouts at Brookside Elementary School from March 1st through March 28th. Pre-registration is not necessary. They just need to show up for the tryouts. The times for the tryouts are as follows: U10 Boys and Girls – Sundays -
10:30am to Noon Mondays - 4:30pm to 6pm The more tryout sessions the players attend, the better opportunity they have to show their skills to the selection committee. The selection committee will consist of the coach and professional trainers. Players who are selected for the team will be notified the first week of April. How will a player register for the team? Players who are selected for the Extra team will be asked to register for the Fall Season by April 9th to ensure they are committed to the team. All others will be able to register for the early registration on April 17th or the regular registration on May 1st. How many players will be on a team? This will be just like the regular AYSO season, so the number of players on a team will be as follows: U10 – 9 or 10 players U11 – 12 players U13 – 14 or 15 players U14 – 14 or 15 players
Will the Extra program utilize the ¾ play rule? Yes. Tryout Forms and Instructions will be posted on the AYSO Region 4 website by Wednesday February 10, 2010.
